History of Panorama

The panorama’s device existed in paintings, especially in murals during the early 20 A.D and it reached the zenith of development in which whole buildings were constructed to surface 360 degrees panoramas with incorporation of lighting effects and elements of motion. Right after the revelation of wet plate collusion process, photographers would take albumen prints and place them together in order to form a panoramic image.

The kinds of panoramic cameras and methods are as follows:

  • Stereo Cyclograph – It is a two fixed focus panoramic camera fitted in a mahogany wooded box, containing the lens at a distance of eight centimeters from each other enabling the photographer to set the camera level. These images are generally used for mapping purposes owing to a rotatable shaft present in the camera.
  • Wonder Panoramic Camera – It requires the photographer for its power motive; for taking a photograph, the photographer needs to swivel the metal cap away from the lens to get started with the exposure. The rotation of this camera is set for a full 360 degree as well, thereby, producing a negative of eighteen inch long.
  • Periphote – The rotated type of camera has a wound spring clock around it which holds the roll of the film and directs the light through a half millimeter wide aperture at the film.
  • Handmade panoramic camera – The following style of camera was filmed with the help of a detachable film holder along with a darker side.

The features of panoramic photography are:

  • Short rotation – Rotating lens, short rotation and swing lens comprise the entire panoramic camera and uses a curved film plane as well. Although the exposure takes merely fraction of a second, short rotation cameras generally offer few shutter speeds and have weak ability of focusing. In case you wish to photograph closer objects, you ought to have a small aperture in order to bring the foreground into distinct focus.
  • Fixed lens – These are the most common parts of a panoramic camera having a flat image plane; since they expose the film in a single exposure, fixed lens camera can be used with electronic flash which would work constantly.
  • Digital Photography – With this aspect, the most common and convenient method of capturing panoramas is to take a wide series of pictures and stitching them together. Also, there are two types namely, the cylindrical panorama employed primarily in still life photography and the spherical panorama used for virtual yet reality images.
  • 3D panorama – 3D attributes are applied while capturing panorama images and photographs can be taken from various angles.
